Here we go again.  Tax and spend liberals and faux-conservatives are once again waging a war on prosperity. This time they are taking aim at small businesses and your wallet.  This latest attack on the American the dream comes in the form of mandatory sales taxes on Internet purchases.

S. 336, entitled the “Marketplace Fairness Act of 2013”, is a Senate bill that attempts to mandate a sales tax on every Internet purchase.  Popularly known as the National Internet Tax Mandate, this legislation will require small businesses to become tax collectors for every state government. While this is Federal legislation, state governments will be the entities sticking their hand in your pocket every time you make a purchase online.

S. 336 is receiving support from both sides of the aisle.  Liberals love it because it is another chance to push our country closer to Socialism while further expanding a bloated government programs.  Faux-conservatives are playing ball because big business is hoping to use the legislation as a weapon against small business competitors.  A destructive blend of Socialism and big business cronyism are attempting to destroy the very engines of economic recovery; they must be stopped.

S. 336 demands that all Internet purchases be taxed on the state level.  However, it will require business owners to collect the tax, regardless of where the business is located and where the purchase was made. If a business in Louisiana sells to someone living in Texas, the business owner will not only have to collect the tax, but they will also be required to calculate the tax for Texas.  Not only will small businesses become agents of state tax agencies but they will also be required to understand and implement state and local tax laws for any state where they make a sale.

This shockingly burdensome legislation is the brainchild of the Big Business with brick-and-mortar retail stores.  Such stores have been slowly losing ground to Internet retailers.  S.336 is their nuclear weapon in this war.  You see, large corporations can handle the extra regulations; they have the money and manpower to work within such a Socialist haven.  But small businesses don’t have such resources.  They don’t have the manpower to understand all of the different tax codes nor do they have the ability to become tax collectors for every tax jurisdiction in America.

S. 336 is meant to kill small businesses so that large corporations can create near monopolies and over charge the public.  In fact, former Presidential nominee, Ron Paul, stated, “The underlying Act has nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with enriching large companies and bloated state governments, while harming small businesses, taxpayers, and consumers.”

Small businesses are the engine of economic recovery.  The United States should be creating laws that help small business; they certainly shouldn’t be coming under attack by the collusive forces of big government and big business.

Further, do you really think consumers can handle even more taxes?  When you sat down to do your taxes this year, were you thinking that you need to give away MORE of your hard earned money to the government?  That is exactly what these legislators seeking to do.  They seek to line their pockets and create more campaign funds; therefore they are pushing this legislation forward at the behest of big business.  They don’t care that such legislation will further erode the middle class and slow down the already sluggish economic recovery.  They only care about their wallets or their tax-and-spend ideologies.  They will destroy American families, small businesses, and ultimately the American dream all for the sake of their own selfish ambitions.
