Supreme Court Justices try to stay out of politics. But every now and then, they are forced to respond to some out of control politician. Today was one of those days.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on an abortion case challenging the constitutionality of a Louisiana law that requires abortionist have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

While the arguments were taking place inside the Court, Sen. Chuck Schumer was addressing a crowd outside and he crossed a serious line.

“I want to tell you Gorsuch! And I want to tell you Kavanaugh!" Schumer shouted. "You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you! If you go forward with these awful decisions…”

The response was swift. Chief Justice Roberts issued a statement condemning the Senator's threats.

Schumer was shocked to actually be called out on his antics. One of his spokespeople released a statement claiming that the New York Senator was referring to Senate Republicans with his threat, and not the Supreme Court Justices mentioned by name.

I don't buy that for one second. Schumer literally shouted out that he was speaking directly to Kavanaugh and Gorsuch. Turning around and claiming that he meant to refer symbolically to Republicans is nonsense.

Furthermore, there is no "political price" for the Supreme Court to pay. They do not have to stand for re-election. Across the board, Schumer's excuse makes no sense. He thought he could get away with threatening and intimidating Supreme Court Justices, never thinking he'd be called out for it.

Senate  Republicans should immediately file a censure resolution against Chuck Schumer.
