It really doesn't get any more cut and dry than this. For years, the GOP has promised to defund Planned Parenthood. In 2015, the House and Senate actually passed defunding legislation and sent it to then-President Obama's desk. Obviously, Obama vetoed it. But, the GOP promised that they would never stop trying to shut down Planned Parenthood.
Fast-forward to this year. The House passed a bill that would have stripped the abortion provider's funding for a whole year. But when it got to the Senate, it died when the Obamacare repeal bill failed.
Now, the Republican leadership is doing a full reversal. Instead of actually doing what they promised - and pass what they had passed two years ago - they have completely turned their backs on the pro-life movement. Right now, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are drafting budgets that will completely fund Planned Parenthood for another year.
How can someone vote to defund Planned Parenthood and then, two months later, vote to refund it? Only if they don't think you'll notice...
This means that your hard earned taxdollars will be used to help this butcher shop keep the lights on.
President Trump is by no means perfect, but no one is. He has shown he is truly pro-life. Trump has used his pen to write executive orders to shut down federally financed abortion programs both here and abroad. He appointed a pro-life Justice to the Supreme Court. But he can't do it all alone.
This is our moment: right here, right now. Congress has to pass a budget this month. The fight right now is over what will be in it.
Yesterday, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecil Richards emailed supporters to express the organization's opposition to Trump's decision to end Obama's amnesty. This is what she wrote:
"Here at Planned Parenthood, we firmly believe that every person has the right to live, work, and raise a family freely and without the threat of deportation or separation."
I almost spit out my coffee when I read that. Planned Parenthood believes that "every person has the right to live?" Seems a little strange given their goal every year is to kill as many babies as possible...
I also agree that every person has the right to live and that is why I stand more committed than ever to making sure that Planned Parenthood doesn't get a single cent from the Federal government next year.
Can you imagine what we'd be seeing on abortion if Hillary Clinton had won and Democrats had retaken Congress? It would be open season on the unborn.
Donald Trump ran a pro-life campaign. He said openly on a debate stage that he would appoint pro-life judges and if they overturned Roe v Wade, so be it. Then, he won. His first week in office, he sent the largest-ever Presidential delegation to the March for Life and signed executive orders cutting off US funding to foreign abortion providers. He is begging Congress to send him pro-life bills.
Now, with just days left to pass a budget, the GOP is teaming up with Democrats to keep Planned Parenthood fully funded.
This isn't just a policy disagreement. Lives are literally on the line. If they succeed in passing a clean budget, there is literally no telling how many innocent children will be killed...
My wife is currently pregnant with our first child. Every day, I wake up eager to see if he or she has started kicking yet. I relish every opportunity to get an ultrasound and can't wait to be in that delivery room to hear my child cry for the first time.
But all across this country, these things mean the opposite. Abortionists look for kicking to see if a child is too old to abort, they use ultrasounds to devise ways to rip the baby apart in the womb, limb from limb, and in far too many surgical rooms, a baby's cry means something else entirely...
Abortion is evil. But it is also evil for the Federal government to help abortionists stay in business.
The unborn cannot defend themselves. They need you.
It all comes down to this. Please, rise up and DEMAND that Congress defund Planned Parenthood in this year's budget.
